Falconry or, sometimes they let you in places when you have a big fancy camera.
This was at the Caerphilly Big Cheese festival - a fun and really big event at Caerphilly Castle in June. I don't know if they have it every year but it was going on when we visited and we had a great time. There were reenactors and booths about medieval life and clothes and food, but also in the car park behind the Castle they had a faire set up with rides and games. There were vendors with food and so many vendors selling various Ciders.
But of course I fell in with the Falconry.
I started taking pictures out behind the fence but the lovely fellow who ran the company invited me inside. I was so tickled and excited that it did not occur to me until after I got in that I might be a little afraid of these gorgeous birds of prey. :)
Falcons, hawks, owls and eagles were all there to be seen and ogled over. I was not very close but as you can see their perches were close together and if I was looking at one, another was right behind me flapping his wings none too impressed with this interloper staring at them with a gigantic black lens.
I do not know if he did a demonstration, we didn't stay, but he let me roam around and take as many photos as I liked. He simply let me in and then left me alone with his gorgeous birds. I count my gigantic Canon 1Dx for allowing me this pleasure and a memory I will certainly never forget.
