Supernatural - Winchester Style

Supernatural - Winchester Style

(Original Posting, March, 2012)

This has got to be one of my all-time favorite shows I've ever seen.

It's funny. It's lightly campy in a tongue-in-cheek way, just laughing at itself enough to be perfectly timed. It's scary! (Though I have gotten used to it now, in the beginning it used to sort of actually really scare me!) The charisma between the actors is so tangible. It's like they are brothers.

But you want to know why I really like it?

The writing

They get it right. The Folklore. The stories. The legends. The occult knowledge is actually accurate and it makes the Occult nerd inside me sing with glee, I tell you, glee!!!

But more - the authenticity, at least at the start. It's gotten a bit campier and recycled towards season 7, I'll admit. But at the start, the writing was authentic. It's what people would say to one another. It didn't even feel scripted at all. It's clever and intelligent. I'll forgive them the same tropes they've been using. I'm guessing that they are only giving the audience what they remember and want from the first few seasons. A tortured Sam. A protective Dean.

Besides all that... I just love the Occult. Witches, Demons, Ghosts, Shapeshifters, Vampires, Angels... you name it, they've Hunted it. <3
