True Names by Vernor Vinge
I just finished True Names by Vernor Vinge. (yes yes I know a little late, shame on me)
I wish I had read this 20 or 30 years ago. I wish to my bones. Instead, I guessed the ending twice over but it didn't diminish my experience because this is the seminal work. Yes it's before Neuromancer. Yes it's before Snow Crash. This is the work. A short story - less than 100 pages and it has it all. Vinge - I love you.
I read it while watching Blade Runner. How perfect was that? <3 <3
I felt elevated at the end of the story, knowing what I know and despite guessing. 1981 - he saw it all.
