Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 24" x 15"
A simple composition with a fairly simple message. On our way to the next plane, we leave behind earthly pleasures and some small marks on our environment.

This is one of my favorite of his personal visions - but this next week, the next seven pieces, are my favorites, in order, finishing off with my most favorite.

Probably not exciting enough but I was trying to illustrate a point here with showing his personal visions.  It's not just about "oooh, pretty art by a master artist" it's about an artist with technical skill that is capable of showing us interpretive works, with actual images - as opposed to those hacks who mush paint around and call it "abstract" because they lack any real skill to do otherwise.  Whelan shows us the pinnacle of what art can be on a canvas.

It's very easy to show his book covers for the "ooh and ahh" factor - but that was never my intent with this series of posts.  If you want some "ooh and ahh" go google his The Way of Kings image.  It's beautiful and gorgeous and technically masterful, as usual, but it's for a book.
