Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, but also discuss history, folklore and films and books. Hope you have a nice stay!

Photo Sites - take five thousand!

Photo Sites - take five thousand!

Where do you upload and store your photos to display?  Do you use one service? Three? Or dozens?

I recently just got back access to my *ancient* Yahoo account.  In the interim I had created 2 more Yahoo/Flickr accounts.  So now I'm sitting here with three Yahoo/Flickr accounts.  Crimany!  I also have a SmugMug, 500px (defunct) and Irista (empty).  Not to mention my own personal blog, which I never posted a single photo to, because I thought it was pointless and that I was better served uploading and sharing them all with Google+ because they were going to be indexed better.  HAH!

Now that I've discovered that Google+ actually doesn't index anything you post to Google+ at all, I've got to somehow go back and re issue all the content all over again.  I've done the main body of work.  I've downloaded all my posts from there and re-issued the worthy ones here.

But what to do with all my photos?  I feel yanked and pulled in different directions and nothing really satisfies me.  Flickr, believe it or not, actually looks better than Smugmug.  It's new presentation is appealing.  It is indexed somewhat better than Smugmug, though - I have yet to come across a Google Image search with SmugMug results.

The best results are still from personal blogs/sites.  I'm just three years behind on promoting anything relating to my blog.  It feels awful! I'm not even trying to make money off anything, either.  I just have written quite a lot about folklore and travel and architecture and stories of my traveling and it'd be cool if ANY of that showed up in search.  I'd be happy with several pages down in search, to be honest, just SOMETHING would be nice.

The crux of it all; how to display your photos.   Squarespace has gorgeous templates - unfortunately their galleries are just as archaic as any.  I'm simply not happy with how they are displayed within my jensketch.com site here.

I'm mostly just really bored and trying to give myself something to do on-the-side because I am working on loads of things right now but this is what I am doing presently.

This is why this blog is called woolgathering. :D
